We've just had a little nugget of nutritional information passed on to us by the iiaa the Institute for Anti Ageing, and we thought we'd share it with you.
Satsumas and clementines are traditionally eaten in abundance at Christmas time. Do you painstakingly strip off every trace of those little white fibre veins from your fruit? Or do you simply peel and eat the lot?
Exciting nutritional benefits are to be found in the bits of fruits and veg that we often discard. Hesperidin is a bioflavonoid found in citrus fruits, most highly concentrated in the white pith.
According to nutritionist Patrick Holford, bioflavonoids like hesperidin strengthen capillaries, stabilise vitamin C and have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Boost your intake with our Advanced Nutrition Programme Skin Collagen Support supplement (110mg of hesperidin per 2 capsules)
And next time you peel your fruit, enjoy the white stuff too!

Fast Fixes For Busy Girlies
It's getting to that time of year where we are preparing for the Christmas festivities, and all that shopping, planning, cooking and cleaning can play havoc with a girl's nails!
Here at Waters Edge Clinic we know that spare time can be in short supply as we get closer to the 'Big Day', and finding the time to sit and wait for your nails to dry after a manicure is definately not on the priority list!
So why not try Shellac, the manicure that gives a high gloss shine for 14 days or more, with no danger of chipping or splitting nails? Even better, your nails are dry instantly, so you're ready to go immediately your manicure is completed - and you won't have to worry about smudging either, as the high gloss finish seals and protects your nails.
It's another thing on your list that you can tick as 'done' and forget for 2 weeks during the festive period, and no matter how hard you party, your nails will always look immaculate! We have a special discount on Shellac manicures throughout December, so it's an even better treat!
Talking of needing quick fixes to get you looking good for the party season, how about a treatment for perking up your eyes that takes about 35 minutes, and is guaranteed to give tired eyes a 'lift'?
Our Express Eye Lift does just that! Using gentle microcurrent lifting techniques, we'll have those dark circles, puffy eyes and fine lines sorted in no time!
See our website, www.watersedgeclinic.co.uk for full details of these fast fixes, guaranteed to leave you looking sparkling with minimum time and effort this Christmas!www.watersedgeclinic.co.uk

Why We're Not On Groupon
Everybody likes to get a great deal on whatever they are buying, especially these days, and the popularity of group discount incentives on the internet has grown as a result.
Recently there have been a number of offers for treatments such as Botox and even plastic surgery, on sites such as Groupon, which has been a real cause for concern among industry professionals. Criticism has come from industry commentators such as the BAAPS (British Association of Associate Plastic Surgeons) who have spoken out against promoting what are, after all, serious surgical procedures and operations on group buying sites.
The main concern is the trivialisation of these serious medical procedures, such as tummy tucks, breast surgery and rhinoplasty (nose jobs to you and me!) in the media and amongst marketing groups.
Groupon and similar sites have been criticised for their discounted surgery offers. The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, (BAPRAS) have a warning on their website that 'members engaging in such activities will be the subject of investigation'.
Although we don't offer any surgical procedures at Waters Edge Clinic, we do offer Botox, dermal fillers and medical skin needling. Our industry peers and associations are also concerned about offering these treatments on group buying sites, and for the same reasons as the medical profession; these treatments should be prescribed. Imagine going for a consultation with a plastic surgeon, and being told that you have to make your decision within 30 minutes in order to get a 'special deal'?! This harks back to the bad old days of the double glazing salesman approach, and goes against established codes of practice which prohibits time-linked offers and incentives. Injectables and medical needling would fall under these auspices.
We are expected, as professionals, to give clients/patients a chance to make informed choices; people can't possibly make an informed choice if they are buying a treatment through a group incentive, without even having a consultation before presenting themselves for their 'cut price deal'.
There's absolutely no problem with group incentives for treatments such as manicures, pedicures, eyelash extensions and other non-invasive treatments, although we are hearing stories of long waiting times to get the discounted deal, as salons have been overwhelmed, sometimes leading to a lower standard in service.
So, we've decided not to 'Groupon' Waters Edge Clinic's treatments, however, that doesn't mean we won't offer special promotions and discounts from time to time, and our most loyal clients will always be offered exclusive extra discounts.
We'd rather offer clients genuine discounts that don't compromise on standards of treatments, or levels of care for those having the more medically-oriented treatments that we offer.
We think we've made the right decision, but what do you think?

Introducing The Needle Free Anti Frown Treatment
"Botox is out! Now it's official.........
Women prefer 'Super-Facials' as the top anti-ageing treatment"
The Daily Mail
The media are on fire with features highlighting the rise of exactly the kind of anti-ageing services that a switched-on salon must now offer to satisfy the public. The buzz is all about 'super-charged' facials and super-effective ingredients.
According to the Daily Mail, celebrities and the public alike are turning away from Botox and deep peels in favour of salon based approaches that help the skin to rejuvenate itself.
iiaa products and treatments provide measurable results that don't involve painful and risky surgery or toxic injections that 'freeze' normal human expressions. Our new must-have super facial The Frown Treatment, is now available at Waters Edge Clinic.
"67% OF WOMEN WANT ANTI-AGEING FACIALS, COMPARED WITH ONLY 21% WHO WANT BOTOX" says Olay's Big British Beauty Poll. Their survey asked 20,000 18-65 year old women which types of anti-ageing treatments they have had, or would consider having, with surprising results.
Anti-ageing facials top the list at 67%! Just 24% have had or would opt for cosmetic surgery.
"CELEBRITIES SUCH AS DANNII MINOGUE SAY 'NO MORE' TO BOTOX, WOMEN ARE FOLLOWING THE TREND AND TURNING TO SUPER-CHARGED FACIALS AS ALTERNATIVES TO FIRMER, YOUNGER-LOOKING SKIN" Daily Mail
WHAT THE PRESS SAY ABOUT ENVIRON SALON TREATMENTS:
"iiaa brand Environ offers probably the most effective facial treatment technology available in the world today, giving results that make others suspect you may have had surgery or injectables!" Grazia Magazine
Mary Linehan, beauty editor, Optima Magazine; "I LOVED the Frown Treatment. I am really impressed with the results. My frown line is a consternation to me. Even the one treatment certainly improved the appearance of it, plus my other lines - crevices, actually"
Actress SADIE FROST loves her anti-ageing Environ facials. "I always come out looking radiant and feeling totally relaxed. Everyone is commenting on how great my skin looks - I am 100% happy"
Suzanne Duckett, beauty editor, Good Housekeeping, was amazed by her facial: "I'll do some yoga, book Environ skin care company's FROWN TREATMENT and blur that line from inside out"
It's the no-needle treatment that will soften lines on the forehead and around the eyes, and it stimulates the natural production of collagen when ENVIRON skincare products are used alongside. Happy days!
We're excited about this treatment! The results are clinically proven, and we are pleased to be able to offer this treatment. Come and see us for a free consultation, see some 'before and after' pictures, and learn about the ENVIRON 'no-needle' approach to eliminating those lines.

Onwards and Upwards!
It's been a while since Clinicguru posted. Let's just say that there have been a few minor distractions lately, but nothing we can't cope with.
It never ceases to amaze us that our industry sometimes seems to attract the most undesirable and unprofessional types - of course it happens in all professions, but, if we're unfortunate enough to have been associated with or affected by such types, it can be difficult for a while. I'm just trying to remember that old saying, the one about finger-pointing; ahh yes, I remember, it goes something like "When You point Your finger at somebody, remember that there are 3 fingers pointing back at YOU" Hmm, very apt!
On a more positive note, we have new treatments coming in to Waters Edge Clinic.
Shellac is known as the '2 week manicure'. This is a nail colour that is applied like polish, but lasts for 2 weeks without chipping or splitting, and maintains a high gloss.
It's 'cured' under a UV lamp to seal the colour and produce the high gloss finish.
So it's a case of apply it and forget it for 2 weeks of amazing nail colour with no maintenence. We like!
With the Christmas season fast approaching, parties and outings can be fun, but re-applying your mascara continually can clause clumping and 'lumpy' looking lashes.
CryBaby to the rescue! CryBaby is a semi-permanent mascara, that is applied on to your own lashes, coating and lengthening them. It lasts for about 3 weeks, and you can laugh, cry, swim, shower etc, with no need to worry about your mascara running! How fab is that? Great if you would like longer lashes, but don't want to have false lashes applied to get the look!
By the way girls...we will need models to practise on, so get your skates on and contact Waters Edge Clinic to volunteer!
More news coming soon!

New Facial/Body Treatments Available!
At Waters Edge Clinic we like to add new innovations and services to keep everyone's skin looking as fab as possible!
Clinicguru recently attended a seminar in London for some updates on the latest facial treatments for acne and problem skins, and pigmented/sundamaged/ageing skins.
Our regular readers will know that we are Environ devotees. This skincare range was developed by the wonderful Dr Des Fernandez, and is backed up by clinical treatments to address the many skin issues that we all face, whether that be maintaining a youthful look to our skins, or requiring more intervention for clearing acne and sun damage (also known as photo-ageing)
We now have two new facials on offer for tackling these problems;
the Skin Clearing Treatment for those with acne/acne rosacea/congested & problem skins
The Skin Clearing Treatment takes the form of a gentle exfoliating 'peel'. The word 'peel' can sometimes strike fear into the hearts of those who have ever watched TV programmes like Ten Years Younger, where the person receiving the the makeover goes along for facial peeling to address lines and wrinkles, and ends up locked away for 5 days swathed in bandages, and literally peeling off layers of skin! Dear reader, we promise you, it doesn't have to be like that - in fact, this type of deep peel can have damaging effects on the skin long term, and it is Dr Fernandez's belief that we don't need to treat our skins so harshly in order to achieve truly dramatic results.
So, the Skin Clearing Treatment peel is a more gentle yet effective approach to problematic skins, and there is no 'downtime' associated with this peeling treatment. We're using a gentle formulation of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA's) which are readily accepted and metabolised easily by the skin, without causing discomfort during the treatment, or traumatic after-effects. We customise the treatment to suit the individual, as no two people have exactly the same issues with their skin - it truly is a prescriptive facial.
The Masque Crystal Peel has been formulated to deal with issues such as pigmented skin through sun damage or hormonal activity, and also lax skin, ie tops of arms/neck/chest as well as the face. This is again a very gentle peeling regime, and is dominated by the use of Vitamin C in a very concentrated form, which works at a cellular level to start the repairing of damage/ageing through sun exposure and other environmental situations.
Free consultations are available, so just contact us at Waters Edge Clinic for details.
MORE NEW TREATMENTS COMING SOON! Check back with us to see what's coming next! We promise you'll like it!!

A Welcome Bit Of Sunshine!
We seem to be enjoying some late Summer sunshine this weekend, and of course that sends us all looking for the sun loungers and summer clothing that we had packed away only last week, thinking that the summer was over!
It's great to see the sun again, and we all enjoy it's warmth, perhaps taking the opportunity to lunch 'alfresco' as Clinicguru did today. But as I was sitting in a very pleasant part of Sussex, watching my fellow lunch companions soaking up the sunshine, I was very mindful that we still need to exercise care with our skins in the sun, even at this late stage of the summer.
I couldn't help wondering how many of the diners sitting outside had taken the trouble to apply any kind of sun protection, let alone the right type! Having come straight back to my computer I started to do some research, and discovered, not surprisingly, some very varied and conflicting advice about what type of sun protection we should be using.
I know from my own experiences with clients that, when asked whether they use an SPF (Sun Protection Factor), their replies range from "There's one in my makeup" to "I use an SPF 50!" The SPF in the makeup will give minimal protection, as it is combined with the makeup, and not applied separately. The SPF 50 in fact is no better than an SPF 15, and this fact is backed up by research carried out by Cancer Research UK. Dr Des Fernandez, founder of Environ skincare, feels that an SPF of 15, combined with an anti oxidant combination of vitamins E and C, and a broad-spectrum protection range (protecting from both UVA and UVB radiation) offers the best protection, as it effectively filters the harmful rays that cause burning and long-term damage, whilst at the same time helping to minimise the free radical activity in our skin cells, which is triggered by exposure to the sun.
UVA rays from the sun cause DNA cell damage, and consequently skin ageing, so it's a good idea to protect our skins as much as possible.www.watersedgeclinic.co.uk
RAD, the Environ sun care protection cream, has been formulated to address these issues, and is very effective in providing the necessary protection, whilst preserving skin health. When you consider that you can also receive sun damage on a cloudy day too, it's worth remembering to apply your RAD every day before you leave the house!

Are You What You Eat?
There is a popular phrase; "You are what you eat". There is very strong scientific evidence that would suggest this statement to be true!
What do you eat? And how does it impact on your health and well-being?
Everyone would appear to be very well informed these days about their diet, with so much education coming from Government sources, lifestyle magazines, and TV programmes. You'd think that we would all be walking around without an ounce of excess fat, and boundless amounts of energy, given all this freely available diet and lifestyle advice.
Yet just last week, there were more shocking statistics released that 11 million people in the UK will be obese by 2030. So why is this the case? Certainly lifestyle choices play a big part - being inactive and eating too many foods that contain fat and sugar (particularly convenience foods) would appear to be the main culprits.
Are there other factors governing weight gain though? Clinicguru found some interesting information on webmd.boots.com
At Waters Edge Clinic we are fans of Patrick Holford, who has developed the Advanced Nutrition Programme. Patrick is a well-respected nutritionist, and has used his 30 year's experience in this field to develop a range of supplements that enhance general health, and specific products such as Metabolic Support, which is prescribed for people on weight loss programmes. Worth a visit!www.advancednutritionprogramme.com www.webmd.boots.com

Skin Analysis Event A Hit!
Waters Edge Clinic held it's first Skin Analysis Event on August 24th, and all those who attended were very interested to discover how their skin looked 'under the surface'.
The 'Visia' is a high tech skin analysis technique, which literally takes pictures of the skin at deeper levels than can be seen with the naked eye, to reveal the 'hidden damage' that may be lurking there.
An expert from the International Institute for Anti-Ageing - iiaa - consulted with our patients individually, and with the aid of the images captured with the Visia, was able to give a precise analysis of their skin conditions, and what steps they could take to address problems such as sun damage, brown pigmentation marks, capillary damage, wrinkles, imperfections and congested pores. Each person was given a 'score' for their skin condition, and this will be compared with images taken in October, when the Skin Analyst will return for a follow-up consultation with each client, and improvements noted - there should definately be improvements if everyone has followed her advice!
So how will these improvements be achieved? Well diet and lifestyle certainly play a part, and here at Waters Edge Clinic it's one of our 'Hot Topics'. We believe that good skin is within everyone's reach, and by making simple 'tweaks' to your diet and lifestyle, you can make considerable improvements to your skin's appearance. Every client receives a full diet and lifestyle analysis before we discuss any treatments, so that we can help them to reach their skin health goals.
However, to get the best possible skin, we need to address the skin from the 'outside in' too. We are passionate about skin health, that's why we work exclusively with Environ skincare products. Environ has been developed by an eminent South African plastic surgeon, Dr Des Fernandez, who Clinicguru had the fantastic fortune to meet, and receive training first hand on Environ, when it was first launched in the UK 13 years ago.
Environ skincare contains active vitamins, which have the capability to make a significant difference to skin, reversing damage by normalising the DNA in skin cells, and encouraging healthy collagen production - leading to firmer, younger-looking skin. Problem skins such as acne, excessive redness, oily and dry skin can all be corrected by using the appropriate Environ product. Can't wait to see how everyone's skin has improved in October!
