New Facial/Body Treatments Available!

At Waters Edge Clinic we like to add new innovations and services to keep everyone's skin looking as fab as possible!

Clinicguru recently attended a seminar in London for some updates on the latest facial treatments for acne and problem skins, and pigmented/sundamaged/ageing skins.

Our regular readers will know that we are Environ devotees. This skincare range was developed by the wonderful Dr Des Fernandez, and is backed up by clinical treatments to address the many skin issues that we all face, whether that be maintaining a youthful look to our skins, or requiring more intervention for clearing acne and sun damage (also known as photo-ageing)

We now have two new facials on offer for tackling these problems;
the Skin Clearing Treatment for those with acne/acne rosacea/congested & problem skins

The Skin Clearing Treatment takes the form of a gentle exfoliating 'peel'. The word 'peel' can sometimes strike fear into the hearts of those who have ever watched TV programmes like Ten Years Younger, where the person receiving the the makeover goes along for facial peeling to address lines and wrinkles, and ends up locked away for 5 days swathed in bandages, and literally peeling off layers of skin! Dear reader, we promise you, it doesn't have to be like that - in fact, this type of deep peel can have damaging effects on the skin long term, and it is Dr Fernandez's belief that we don't need to treat our skins so harshly in order to achieve truly dramatic results.

So, the Skin Clearing Treatment peel is a more gentle yet effective approach to problematic skins, and there is no 'downtime' associated with this peeling treatment. We're using a gentle formulation of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA's) which are readily accepted and metabolised easily by the skin, without causing discomfort during the treatment, or traumatic after-effects. We customise the treatment to suit the individual, as no two people have exactly the same issues with their skin - it truly is a prescriptive facial.

The Masque Crystal Peel has been formulated to deal with issues such as pigmented skin through sun damage or hormonal activity, and also lax skin, ie tops of arms/neck/chest as well as the face. This is again a very gentle peeling regime, and is dominated by the use of Vitamin C in a very concentrated form, which works at a cellular level to start the repairing of damage/ageing through sun exposure and other environmental situations.

Free consultations are available, so just contact us at Waters Edge Clinic for details.

MORE NEW TREATMENTS COMING SOON! Check back with us to see what's coming next! We promise you'll like it!!

A Welcome Bit Of Sunshine!

We seem to be enjoying some late Summer sunshine this weekend, and of course that sends us all looking for the sun loungers and summer clothing that we had packed away only last week, thinking that the summer was over!

It's great to see the sun again, and we all enjoy it's warmth, perhaps taking the opportunity to lunch 'alfresco' as Clinicguru did today. But as I was sitting in a very pleasant part of Sussex, watching my fellow lunch companions soaking up the sunshine, I was very mindful that we still need to exercise care with our skins in the sun, even at this late stage of the summer.

I couldn't help wondering how many of the diners sitting outside had taken the trouble to apply any kind of sun protection, let alone the right type! Having come straight back to my computer I started to do some research, and discovered, not surprisingly, some very varied and conflicting advice about what type of sun protection we should be using.

I know from my own experiences with clients that, when asked whether they use an SPF (Sun Protection Factor), their replies range from "There's one in my makeup" to "I use an SPF 50!" The SPF in the makeup will give minimal protection, as it is combined with the makeup, and not applied separately. The SPF 50 in fact is no better than an SPF 15, and this fact is backed up by research carried out by Cancer Research UK. Dr Des Fernandez, founder of Environ skincare, feels that an SPF of 15, combined with an anti oxidant combination of vitamins E and C, and a broad-spectrum protection range (protecting from both UVA and UVB radiation) offers the best protection, as it effectively filters the harmful rays that cause burning and long-term damage, whilst at the same time helping to minimise the free radical activity in our skin cells, which is triggered by exposure to the sun.

UVA rays from the sun cause DNA cell damage, and consequently skin ageing, so it's a good idea to protect our skins as much as possible.www.watersedgeclinic.co.uk

RAD, the Environ sun care protection cream, has been formulated to address these issues, and is very effective in providing the necessary protection, whilst preserving skin health. When you consider that you can also receive sun damage on a cloudy day too, it's worth remembering to apply your RAD every day before you leave the house!

Are You What You Eat?

There is a popular phrase; "You are what you eat". There is very strong scientific evidence that would suggest this statement to be true!

What do you eat? And how does it impact on your health and well-being?

Everyone would appear to be very well informed these days about their diet, with so much education coming from Government sources, lifestyle magazines, and TV  programmes. You'd think that we would all be walking around without an ounce of excess fat, and boundless amounts of energy, given all this freely available diet and lifestyle advice.

Yet just last week, there were more shocking statistics released that 11 million people in the UK will be obese by 2030. So why is this the case? Certainly lifestyle choices play a big part - being inactive and eating too many foods that contain fat and sugar (particularly convenience foods) would appear to be the main culprits.

Are there other factors governing weight gain though? Clinicguru found some interesting information on webmd.boots.com

At Waters Edge Clinic we are fans of Patrick Holford, who has developed the Advanced Nutrition Programme. Patrick is a well-respected nutritionist, and has used his 30 year's experience in this field to develop a range of supplements that enhance general health, and specific products such as Metabolic Support, which is prescribed for people on weight loss programmes. Skin Analysis Event A Hit!

Waters Edge Clinic held it's first Skin Analysis Event on August 24th, and all those who attended were very interested to discover how their skin looked 'under the surface'.
The 'Visia' is a high tech skin analysis technique, which literally takes pictures of the skin at deeper levels than can be seen with the naked eye, to reveal the 'hidden damage' that may be lurking there.
An expert from the International Institute for Anti-Ageing - iiaa - consulted with our patients individually, and with the aid of the images captured with the Visia, was able to give a precise analysis of their skin conditions, and what steps they could take to address problems such as sun damage, brown pigmentation marks, capillary damage, wrinkles, imperfections and congested pores. Each person was given a 'score' for their skin condition, and this will be compared with images taken in October, when the Skin Analyst will return for a follow-up consultation with each client, and improvements noted - there should definately be improvements if everyone has followed her advice!
So how will these improvements be achieved? Well diet and lifestyle certainly play a part, and here at Waters Edge Clinic it's one of our 'Hot Topics'. We believe that good skin is within everyone's reach, and by making simple 'tweaks' to your diet and lifestyle, you can make considerable improvements to your skin's appearance. Every client receives a full diet and lifestyle analysis before we discuss any treatments, so that we can help them to reach their skin health goals.
However, to get the best possible skin, we need to address the skin from the 'outside in' too. We are passionate about skin health, that's why we work exclusively with Environ skincare products. Environ has been developed by an eminent South African plastic surgeon, Dr Des Fernandez, who Clinicguru had the fantastic fortune to meet, and receive training first hand on Environ, when it was first launched in the UK 13 years ago.
Environ skincare contains active vitamins, which have the capability to make a significant difference to skin, reversing damage by normalising the DNA in skin cells, and encouraging healthy collagen production - leading to firmer, younger-looking skin. Problem skins such as acne, excessive redness, oily and dry skin can all be corrected by using the appropriate Environ product. Can't wait to see how everyone's skin has improved in October!
